How We Booked Cheap Flights with GetGo Ph #FlyForFree

For weeks, E and I have been waiting for the GetGo Ph seat sale. We had to book our flight back to Manila from Hong Kong. See, we already have our tickets to Macau thanks to the Cebu Pacific Seat Sale last February. What we lacked is our return flight home. I told him that we had to book our tickets by April, latest May.

In my “kuripot” (cheapskate) mind, I wasn’t willing to spend more than P7,000 (USD 140) for our flight back. Some of you are probably thinking that I’m too cheap, how can I possibly book three tickets below P7,000. With determination, stalking skills, and a supportive husband we were able to book our flight back for only P4,426.21 (USD 89)!

GetGo Ph Anniversary Sale

So how did we do it? As I mentioned, it took stalking skills and E to book this flight.

After booking our flight to Macau, I discussed with E that we had more than enough rewards points from our credit card to book two return tickets.

With his approval, I processed the transfer of points from my credit card to my GetGo Ph account. The points transfer was easy but it took 3 working days for GetGo Ph to reflect it on my account.

I guess this was a blessing in disguise. The current seat sale that they had charged 2,000 points per ticket. I didn’t give up, though, I started checking their page every other day hoping that they will announce a seat sale. I keep telling myself that I still had three months to book our return tickets.

Judging their past seat sales I knew that they have bi-monthly seat sales (Read: stalker digital practitioner who spent time analysing their sales and corresponding points).

Come March they started posting teasers about their anniversary sale. I knew that this sale was our opportunity to book our return flights. Thanks to the data I had, I deduced that the possible duration of the seats on sale will be around September to December 2017.

I started checking their page daily! I noticed that they post updates around 11 AM and would send out email blasts at least every other week. This obsessive stalking of their page and email checking bore fruit when I received their advance announcement for the much-waited seat sale.

With my hands trembling, I took a screenshot of my desktop (an actual screenshot – me taking a photo of my desktop)and sent the image to E. My heart started to beat faster as if I ran for a minute in place. It was now or never.

I then asked my brother if I can borrow his Mac Book Pro so I can easily book my flight. This, of course, came with a payment, he will also book a flight if he sees fit (a.k.a. if it fit his schedule). I was fine with that, we had 8,050 points. In my computation, we would only need 4,000 to 5,000 points.

Booking Our Flight

Around 9 PM last March 13, my brother handed me his laptop. Bunny wasn’t asleep yet so she even said “tap tap” when she saw it. I immediately logged in on my GetGo Ph account and clicked remember me. My plan in mind is to sleep for a bit with Bunny and wait for E to wake me up when he comes home. It was written in the stars that we will get our ticket because E’s shift would end around 10:30 PM and that night he was home 15 minutes before midnight.

E woke me up from my not-so-deep slumber with a kiss, just like Sleeping Beauty daw. I immediately sat up and opened the laptop. I refreshed the GetGo Ph site and the promo was still not up.

Midnight came and with renewed confidence, I refreshed the site and clicked on redeem flights. I entered our details, picked the dates, and waited for the page to load. E sat beside me waiting for the page to load. It felt like we were waiting for more than five minutes before the page loaded.

We had two choices, book the morning flight (8:35 AM departure) or the midnight flight (00:05 AM departure). I tried to weigh the pros and cons, I even considered making a list before making the decision. It was then that I realised, there was no traffic to beat, the train was our way to the airport, and that we weren’t in Manila. I also factored in work, with the morning flight we still have ample time to rest before we have to go back.

With E’s approval, I booked the morning flight. I expected the site to load slower, I anticipated that users were logging in and booking their flights, but to my surprise, I was able to go to the next page in less than 15 seconds. I added baggage allowance for myself only which cost us additional 3,510 points. In total, we used up 3,570 points and just added P4,426.21 for tax and other fees.

The Experience

To be honest, there was a sense of thrill when we booked our flights through GetGo Ph. The fact that I asked E to wake me up is enough to prove that I was determined to get tickets. This is something that I would advise to those who will try to book. Set an alarm for 12 MN and don’t wait for their Facebook post. Watch out for their email blasts because most often than not they announce in advance.

This goes for all seat sales. You will miss out on good flight schedules if you wait until the last minute to book or if you just wait for their post to reach you.

Other Seat Sales

If you are still looking for seat sales, you can check Philippine Airline’s site. Last I checked they have no announcements yet on their Facebook page. You can book domestic flights for as low as P1,000 one way. Their sale is both for their domestic and international flights.

Also, as of posting the GetGo Ph Seat Sale is back but with limited seats. So you can try your luck again in booking your flights!Capture4

H20 Hotel Review

I’m still in the process of catching up with my blog backlogs, so here I am sharing my overnight stay experience at H20 last December.

Maximising a MetroDeal Voucher

As early as September last year I bought this voucher from MetroDeal.

As a consumer, you have the option to choose from the different rooms available in H20 Hotel and the type of activity you want to try at Manila Ocean Park. My long talk with E, my husband, ended with us booking the Aqua Room plus 2 tickets to Manila Ocean Park’s Ultimate Adventure. This meant that from the offer posted at the site, at P2,999 my final dues was P4,999.

To compute for the savings I decided to break down the booking if we were to book on our own:

P7,320 for the overnight stay at the Classic Aqua Room

P 760 per person for the Manila Ocean Park Activity

P 300 per person for entrance to Yexel’s Museum

P 400 per person for Liquid Buffet

Total would be at P 10,240 and our savings at P5,241 or 50% of the total bill. This is a good price already for me, so I know we made the right purchase.

Birth Month Staycation

You may be wondering why we booked an overnight stay at H20 in December. No, it’s not our Holiday celebration or our pre-holiday celebration. The reason why we went there was to celebrate my daughter and I’s birth month! Both of us are December babies and I wanted to start a little family tradition. It’s really important for me to start our own family tradition since technically speaking we are a legit family since last August.

H20 Aqua Room

In the eyes of my toddler, the Aqua Room was the bomb! She fell in love with our room because she saw Dory! Yes, blue tang fishes were present in our gigantic aquarium! According to their website, there are up to 35 different species of fishes present in the aquarium. This alone made our stay worthwhile.

You can just sit back and relax while you watch the fishes swim by. If you have a toddler who loves Dory and Nemo, a background chatter of “swim, swim, swim” and “Dowy” would be heard as well.

As for the other amenities of their classic Aqua Room, our queen sized bed was super comfy. It made leaving the bed to roam around Ocean Park a struggle. It was as if the bed was hugging as back when we lied down.

The t&b was roomy although there are no bidets and no bathtubs present. Free toiletries were also provided inside the bathroom.

Our room also had a personal fridge. My problem though is that at times it seemed like it wasn’t cooling our drinks efficiently.

Zenyu Eco Spa

What I loved the most about our stay at H20 was Zenyu Eco Spa! I swear my one exclamation point is not enough to show how much I enjoyed my 90 minutes massage.

Thanks to E, I was able to sneak out after bunny finally fell into a deep slumber after dinner. Truth be told though she fell asleep while we were eating! I think she got super tired from our full day experience of Ocean Park.

From the H20 Website

From the H20 Website

Zenyu Eco Spa is conveniently located just across the check-in counter of the hotel. I noticed that only a few people were waiting outside. I was guessing that most didn’t even bother to try it out. To this I say, you missed out on an amazing massage!

My 90-minute massage at their spa was the best I’ve ever had so far. Better than my experience at The Spa, really. The masseuse listened intently to my body and pampered it well. I even fell asleep for 30 minutes or less.

My money was well spent! I guess they really deliver on what their name’s translation in Japanese which is “complete healing.” Needless to say, I slept like a log until morning when I came back from the spa.

Outdoor Jet Pool

The morning after, E decided that they will take a dip at the Outdoor Jet Pool. Location of this pool wasn’t really convenient. We had to get out of the hotel and walk past the entrance of Ocean Park to access it.

I wasn’t also impressed with the structure of the place. The freaked out mum inside of me was screaming. Kids can slip if they run too fast and the pools weren’t really that fantastic.

Overall Rating

I give H20 a 4 out of 5 rating with room for improvement – to be frank with their outdoor jet pool. The rest of their facilities were great and I would definitely come back with my family when we can.

How to Raise Brave Girls

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and the theme for this year is #BeBoldForChange. Perhaps that is the reason why I see a lot of encouraging posts on Facebook and Instagram. Thanks to those encouragement posts I discovered this TED talk by Caroline Paul.

Her talk was short but was packed with such an inspiring message. As my blog post title suggests, her talk is about raising brave girls.

I wouldn’t divulge the details of her talk, but merely share key takeaways from it. I wouldn’t want you to miss how she shared her experiences as a firefighter and a paraglider pilot.

Bravery wasn’t a trait expected from women. To be blunt we were expected rather we are expected to be damsels in distress, we are seen as fragile beings. But this really shouldn’t be the case. In her talk, she shared how this mentality was often ingrained in our systems unknowingly from the time we were toddlers. Words such as be careful, watch out, stop, and no are often exclaimed when little girls try to do something risky. Boys do hear those too, but girls hear it more. To this, I was hit with a sudden tinge of guilt. See I often exclaim the words be careful to bunny whenever she tries to climb a chair or basically do something I deem is risky. How often? To the point wherein she know exclaims the words be careful when she is playing.

Taking a step back, I realize that there really was no need for me to say be careful or no to her. She was just being a toddler, as my husband would say. She is discovering the world around and her, perhaps telling her to be careful is too much.

Further in her talk Caroline also shared four things that can help raise brave girls.

The first is risky play which she deems is really important for kids. Now, this is the first time I’ve heard of it so I consulted Google. Turns out it is a type of play that kids should be exposed to. It is defined as

A thrilling and exciting activity that involves a risk of physical injury, and play that provides opportunities for challenge, testing limits, exploring boundaries and learning about injury risk.

(Sandseter 2007; Little & Wyver, 2008)

The reason why it is important is because it helps children learn how to assess situations, know how risky it is, and how they can deal with it.

Second, Caroline shared that we should cease cautioning girls. Doing so will make her feel that it is okay to not push herself and push boundaries.

Third, we ourselves should practice bravery. For me personally, as a mom, I should become an example for bunny. I don’t need to jump off a plane to give an example of bravery. What I can do instead is take risks and speak up for my beliefs. I think this would be easy for me because I do have a knack for taking risks, I just assess situations as much as I can. I also like trying extreme activities. Maybe one of these days I can teach her the different types of rappelling, I was an instructor once.

Water Rafting @ CDO

Lastly, we should guide our little girls to access their bravery when they need it. There will be times when a task would be too much for them or a play too risky for them. We should help them with that task or help guide them in their play. We have to remember that one day, we will not be there when they face a tall situation. Guiding them now can help them face their challenges in the future braver.

Caroline’s message was loud and clear: you have the power to raise a brave girl. Encouragement is key, as well as being an example for her. Let her experience life with bumps and bruises because ultimately it helps her become a brave individual ready to face challenges along the way.

Mount Sea Resort Review

Back in December, I urged my choir batchmates to indulge in a staycation at Mount Sea Resort.

We rarely see each other now that we weren’t that active anymore. Most often than not, we get to see each other eirher once a month or even once every other month. I guess this is part of adulting. Schedules do not meet and surprise get togethers are better than planned ones. That is why we planned our Christmas staycation, hopefully this will become a tradition.

Merry Christmas from our crazy part of the world.

A post shared by Denice Diaz (@denice_diaz) on

Scheduled on the third weekend of December, we had pure fun at Mount Sea.

The location was good, it was just a short bus ride away from everyone. Getting there was easy. If coming from Manila, it is easily accessible via CavitEx.

When we got there, we had a minor hiccup with our reservation. There was a minor miscommunication. See, I reserved three rooms and I was given the Caviteno Privelegio rate. However, upon our check in we were charged with their normal flat rate. Price difference was almost at P4,000 if I recall correctly. Great thing is that they were able to sort it out immediately. I just mentioned the name of the person whom I contacted for the reservation.

When we went inside our rooms, my initial reaction is that it looked good. I haven’t stayed there before, but I do know that they were undergoing renovation.

Rooms were big, bathrooms clean and with free toiletries, complimentary snacks were provided, and the door warning system was good. AC was good and easy to adjust too.

Since we were there not just to stay in our rooms, but really to enjoy each other’s company, we went around the resort. What thrilled me the most was their entertaimment area, which they call Vertical Avenue.

This area had a mini gym, pool table, darts, sala with entertainment console, and a videoke room! Of course we all sing, aside from being filipinos we are choir members, singing is second to talking.

We did explore Vertical Avenue but the pool looked so inviting. We decided to go for a swim first in their private pool in the afternoon and have mature dinner, because adulting, in the resort restaurant.

Their private pool area had two pools, one is good for kids and the other one for adults. What we all liked about their private pool was the seats submerged in the adult pool (the area where it was situated was elevated). We spent the afternoon and morning after, swimming and taking lots of photos.

For dinner, their in-house restaurant was good but nothing stellar. I think what I liked the best was their chicharong bulaklak. Service was fast and they had high chairs for kids (yay for bunny).

We went to Vertical Avenue after dinner to drink and be merry. You can request for your drinks to be served there after dinner. Just a reminder, usage of the videoke room is limited to 45 minutes per room. Since we were staying in 3 rooms we had 2 plus videoke hours. Of course we maximized those 2 plus hours, we had the whole vertical avenue to ourselves! The staff even allowed us to go a bit over our time because nobody else was lined up to use it.

The rooms, before I forget, comes with free breakfast for two. Since more than two people were assigned per room, we paid a bit of extra. Breakfast was plated and you can choose from the usual continental or local plates.

Near the dining area for breakfast was a mini garden. My little girl, being a nature lover, went around with her daddy. She had so much fun talking with the macaw bird and feeding the koi fish.

Overall, our stay at Mount Sea Resort was great. My only feedback though is that they should have spa services offered and better reservation tracking. We would definitely visit and stay there again.

Toddler Tales #3: Tidy Bunny

At a very young age, I started teaching Bunny to clean up. It started with picking up the jengga blocks she played with, then putting back her books in her mini library after reading. I wanted her to learn that she is responsible with her toys and her books. Really, simply put – chores for toddlers.

Recently I have been teaching her to put her dirty clothes in our laundry basket and to throw the trash in her garbage bin. See, I saw an infographic that kids her age should be given mini-chores already. To which I agree with, because it helps shape them to become more responsible kids.

We saw how she liked cleaning up and we would thank her when she did it. I would go down on my knees, look at her, and tell her how mummy loves it that she cleans up after herself. It was good because she would know where her stuff was. No crying part because she can’t find Dory or her favorite book.

Her dad on the other hand was a bit of the opposite. He would ask me where his stuff was most of the time, which I expected already (thanks to Facebook posts about marriage tandems). He cleans up after himself but would forget where he puts his stuff. (Can other mums relate with me here?)

Fast forward this to Tuesday last week. I got a message from E, he couldn’t find his Nintendo DS. He said that the last time he saw it was when he placed it in his bag before he left for work. As we carefully traced his steps, I finally told him that it was okay. Maybe it was stolen from him when he wasn’t aware of it. Bad things happen but there’s nothing we can do about it. He apologized over and over, but really I didn’t care. If it was stolen from him, it was okay by me because at least he was fine.

Come Friday, a special surprise was revealed. The Nintendo DS wasn’t really stolen but was tidied up by a toddler!

received_120300002280589403It was in our laundry basket all along. Bunny probably thought that it was dirty laundry because it was wrapped in her old lampin (cloth nappy). She, of course, the tidy little girl that she is, decided to put it in our laundry basket. I found it funny that she hid it unknowingly and even sent a photo to her dad. I guess we are blessed to have a funny and tidy Bunny.

Dear Daughter Pt.9

Dear Daughter,

Yesterday, we went to a playschool for your trial class. See, mummy and daddy wants to see if you are ready for playschool. We were thinking of enrolling you first to their Summer Playschool Session before evaluating if we will enroll you full term.

Mummy, being a digital practitioner, searched for possible playschools for you to try. My search ended up with two possible playschools for you; Junior Explorers Playschool and Cradle. After discussing with your daddy, we chose to have you try out Cradle first.

Location was an important factor for us, plus, as daddy pointed out, it had more positive reviews online vs. Junior Explorers Playschool.

Mummy was super excited for you to visit playschool, with a bit of nervousness of course. I didn’t know if you would let me leave you with teachers and students. I didn’t know what to do if you will cry when I leave you. Maybe this was why I had a hard time sleeping the night before your big day. I kept thinking of different scenarios over and over. I blame the strat brain that I have, which has a tendency to overthink and plan as much as I can.

The day finally came. We woke up a bit late, but I ensured you felt great. I started playing the Spotify playlist we made especially for you, with nothing but your favorite Nursery Rhymes.

You had no clue that you will go to school that day. I think, you just thought that mummy will take you somewhere. You were still playing with your box when I asked you to wear your shoes. You just smiled at me, with the usual twinkle in your eye when we go out together.

I asked you to wear your bag and briefed you (how agency talk of mummy) that we will go somewhere fun, where you will meet your teacher and new friends. Your lolo was super excited, perhaps more excited than mummu. He walked you to the gate and proudly said that his little girl will go to school.

I went inside your Lolo Odie’s tryke first, he was our service to Cradle. You soon followed me when you and your lolo were done saying goodbyes.

On the ride to Cradle, you seemed to be nervous. I noticed that you were clingy, you were looking at me as if asking why I asked you to wear a backpack and why I was looking at you differently.

Love, I think you were worried for mummy. At one point in our ride to Cradle you reached for my hand and held it tight. After that you rested your head on my lap as if trying to make me feel better. You see, I couldn’t fathom that the little bunny I once carried on my chest all night long is going to playschool. I know, it is just a trial class. I knew though that if everything went well, we might enroll you full term and that it will start a new phase in our lives. Oh my bunny, it is a big milestone for us.

You held my hand tight gently squeezing my fingers. You were smiling at me and pointing things that you saw on the ride to playschool. It was as if you were silently telling mommy, it is okay, that you are still my little girl.

When we got there, I lead you inside and knocked on the door. Three heavy knocks on my heart echoed, this was the start of your schooling phase.

Teacher opened the door and asked us to take off our shoes. She asked us to wait for a while, while she called on your teacher for the trial class. All that time you never let go of my hand. You started to look around the room, breathing in the atmosphere where laughter of little ones like you echoed. You were starting to smile, even if you knew nobody but mommy.

Your teacher finally came out and said hi to both of us. She was very direct to mummy, she told me that I had to leave wait outside until your trial class ended. She also told me that you will cry, but she assured me that it is normal. You will be with other kids your age and there were two to three teachers present for your class.

She asked me to leave your snacks inside, which I did together with your red Hello Kitty Eco Bottle. I had to let go of your hand while I fixed your things. This was when teacher asked mummy to fill up something.

While I was signing their trial logbook, she held your hand and led you to your classroom. She introduced herself and the two other teachers. Oh love, it was so hard for mummy to not look back and call you. It happened oh so fast, I didn’t even get to say goodbye. I knew it would be more difficult for you if I did. I knew that it will increase the chances of you throwing a fit if I tried to get your attention just to bid goodbye.

With a lump in my throat and my heart, I went outside and left you with them. I wanted to cry, bunny. I wanted to go back in and hug you, my little girl. But I didn’t hear you cry, you didn’t need any distraction from mummy.

I patiently waited for you outside. 2 hours went by fast. I was chatting with daddy and ninang Jaja. I started writing this post and checking updates on Facebook.

I heard your class saying goodbyes so I knew you will be coming out anytime soon. It was such a sight to see that your class of six lined up to go out. You were in a straight line, hand over your other classmate’s shoulder. A smile was painted on mummy’s face, you were perfect in my eyes. What made mommy extra proud was the very good star stamp on your right back hand. When did you start growing up so fast, love? I wanted to pause that moment and preserve it in my memory forever.

Teacher asked me to go inside for your assessment. So I stood up quickly after giving you a kiss on your forehead. I looked at you differently that time, my tiny human is now a tiny school girl.

Teacher told me that you did cry, midclass. You joined the first activity but you got a bit distracted when a teacher left the room. Teacher said that maybe, you thought class was over and you will get to see mummy. But overall, she said you did great.

It seems as if you are ready for school. Mummy however, isn’t ready for your big leap to playschool. I will let you be, because you seem to be ready and we know that it will be best for you. I must accept that you are growing up, fast so damn fast for me to catch up with you.

Oh bunny, I love you so so much. Mummy is an emotional mess but you are awesome. And bunny, I am so so proud of you. I know also that you are proud of your achievement, you show off your star stamp every chance you get. Please please please stay the same. I love you forever, my little bunny.

Toddler Tales #2: Bunny Goes Night Night

Bunny turned 2 last December. She’s a more active little girl. She expresses her feelings better too! That includes naptime or night night time. She would declare that she isn’t ready yet to sleep by saying “ayaw” (no). That is true even if her eyes were heavy already. That fact inspired we to create a list of her reasons why she won’t go naptime or night night time.
Reasons Why Bunny Won’t Go To Sleep
1. Milky time not yet done, even if she is not sucking just latching
2. Elmo’s World
3. She wants more ice cream
4. She wants to read a book (Dory)
5. She wants to read another book
6. She wants to read her third book
7. Wheels on the bus ( I need to sing the whole song).
8. She wants to see her shadow friends, specifically incy-wincy.
9. ET Phone homeeee
10. Nighty night first to her animals.
11. Daddy is hugging mommy.
12. Show and tell first of her 5 little monkeys performance.
13. Happy Feet 2
14. Bo on the Go
15. Still busy playing with her Playdoh
16. Still tinkering with her blocks
17. She’s busy pretending to be a baby
18. She wants to go “bubbles” again
How about your little one? What are his or her reasons to not sleep?

Saving For Gifts with Groupon Coupons #ad #GrouponCoupons

This is a sponsored post, I have been compensated for this post. All opinions expressed in this post however are mine and was not influenced by anyway.

I have a confession to make, I am a big sucker for great deals. No, seriously I am. I find it therapeutic to shop online and save money while doing so! An amazing discovery of mine is Groupon Coupons! Who would have thought that they have amazing coupons? Right? I was surprised by the amount of coupons they have available for everybody.

Don’t believe me? I just checked their site and they have over 81,000 free coupons available for everybody! Of course I checked which ones I can use, for myself and for some last minute holiday shopping.

I felt a need to reward myself for an amazing and stressful 2016. A lot of things happened this year, one such event is our wedding. After all that hardwork, I knew that I can finally gift myself something special. A chanced upon Groupon Coupons for Blue Nile, they had 22 available! Since diamonds are a girl’s best friend I think I’ll use one of the coupons before it expires. The coupon I’m eyeing on is the 40% off for Last Minute Gifts.

Maybe I’ll also get something for E, my husband. I saw that there were 44 coupons for tennis Express. I already browsed their site and saw that they are giving additional 15% off clearance items that they have.

If like me, you enjoy great deals and big savings, I recommend checking out Groupon Coupons before heading out. They seem to have coupons for every store that you can think of or for any item that you need. Just think of the amount you can save! Right? I personally will just ad the amount I save to our savings fund. How about you?

Quality Holiday Gifts for Everyone on Your List #Groupon #Ad

This is a sponsored post, I have been compensated for this post. All opinions expressed in this post however are mine and was not influenced by anyway.

This holiday season, everyone is in a gift giving spirit. I, for one, love the thrill of shopping for items for everyone on our list. I must admit, at first it was fun but after going through everyone that we have to give gifts to I run out of ideas. There is an internal struggle on deciding which gift to give to your close friend or relative. This is true even after walking around the department store or stalls inside malls. I find gifts which are already boxed, and really the packaging is nifty, but are not as unique.

I did consider gift cards as well, but when I think about it, it is better when somebody unwraps a present vs. just receiving a gift card (although really, gift cards are awesome too!).

This time around, I tried searching for unique gifts online. Thank you, INTERNET! That’s when I tried looking at Groupon Goods. Boy was I thankful that I checked this site. I was able to get great ideas for holiday gifts for my close friends! One item I had my eye on for my choir friends is the Bluetooth Shower Speaker! I even want one for myself! Just imagine how fun it would be to sing out loud with your favorite tune while you are enjoying a hot shower.

How about you? Are you done with your Christmas shopping?
