Home Made Chili Con Carne

I promised E that I will cook something special for him today. He had a special request, that I cook something new. By new he means, not my usual lumpiang shanghai, orange chicken, stir fried vegetables, oyster beef or mushroom and beef dish.

He loves spicy food so I decided to cook him Chili Con Carne. So I googled for a recipe and made a few tweaks here and there. So here’s my own version of chili con carne:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp of oil
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 medium sized red onions
  • 1 tsp. of cumin powder
  • 2.5 tsp. of chili powder
  • 400 g. of ground beef
  • 1 green chili
  • 2 cans of 400g diced tomatoes
  • 1 can of 400g beans
  • salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  1. In a large pan or wok saute onions until translucent and then add garlic.
  2. Add the ground beef and season it with the cumin and chili powder (if you want to make it spicier make it 3 tbsp. of chili powder)
  3. Saute until beef is cooked (between 5-6 minutes)
  4. Transfer to a deep pan and add diced tomatoes, green chili (do remove seeds) and beans
  5. Wait for it to simmer and add salt and pepper to taste

Serve with nachos, tacos, rice, crackers or bread! Enjoy! 🙂
